Former Road FC champion A Sol Kwon has been named head coach of South Korea’s MMA national team for the historic 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
South Korean mixed martial arts continues to prepare for one of the biggest moments in its history.
The Korean MMA General Association (KMMAF) has officially appointed former Road FC lightweight champion A Sol Kwon as the head coach of South Korea’s national MMA team for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where mixed martial arts will make its historic debut as an official medal sport.
The announcement comes only weeks after KMMAF revealed the first athletes selected to represent South Korea at the Games, with Bomi Lee (-54 kg) and Eun Seok Choi (-71 kg) earning places on the inaugural national team.
A Historic Moment for Korean MMA
The 2026 Asian Games will mark the first time that mixed martial arts has been included as an official medal event in the history of the competition.
For South Korea, the tournament represents a significant milestone. While Korean fighters have enjoyed success across promotions such as the UFC, Road FC, ONE Championship, and Black Combat, the Aichi-Nagoya Games will be the nation’s first opportunity to compete for Asian Games medals in MMA under the national flag.
With athlete selections already underway, KMMAF is now assembling the coaching staff that will guide the country’s first-ever Asian Games MMA squad.

2026 Asian Games MMA National Team Head Coach Appointed
“The Korea MMA Federation has appointed former Road FC champion A Sol Kwon as the head coach of South Korea’s national MMA team for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
As head coach, Kwon will lead the Republic of Korea’s national mixed martial arts (MMA) team and begin full-scale preparations and athlete development with the goal of winning medals at the Asian Games.
We ask for your continued interest and support for the South Korean MMA National Team.”
The appointment places one of the most recognizable figures in Korean MMA in charge of preparing the country’s first Asian Games team.
During his fighting career, Kwon established himself as one of Road FC’s biggest stars, capturing the promotion’s lightweight championship while becoming one of the sport’s most outspoken personalities in South Korea.
Training Already Underway
Preparations appear to have already begun.
As HanPunch previously reported, Kwon has already been seen working closely with the national team during training sessions. One notable stop included a visit to Korean Zombie MMA, where the athletes trained under the guidance of Chan Sung Jung.
The session allowed the national team to receive feedback from one of the most accomplished fighters in Korean MMA history while exposing the athletes to one of the country’s premier training environments.
Bringing together Kwon’s leadership with the experience of Chan Sung Jung highlights KMMAF’s effort to utilize some of the biggest names in Korean MMA as the nation prepares for its historic debut on the continental stage.
Eyes on Aichi-Nagoya
With the athletes selected and the coaching staff beginning to take shape, South Korea’s preparations for the 2026 Asian Games are entering a new phase.
The addition of A Sol Kwon provides the national team with an experienced former champion who understands the pressures of competing at the highest level, while the involvement of veterans such as Chan Sung Jung demonstrates the collaborative approach being taken behind the scenes.
As mixed martial arts prepares to make its long-awaited Asian Games debut, South Korea will hope that its first national team can make history by bringing home the country’s first Asian Games MMA medals.
