Takaya Suzuki has reached the biggest opportunity of his young MMA career. The 21 year old Japanese flyweight will face undefeated Australian Joseph Larcinese in the Road to UFC Season 5 semifinals on August 28 in Shanghai. A victory would move Suzuki into the tournament final and put him within touching distance of a UFC contract.
Takaya Suzuki enters the matchup with an 8 and 1 professional record, including six wins by knockout or technical knockout. His only professional defeat came in his debut in April 2022. Since then, he has won eight consecutive fights.

Suzuki has developed a reputation as one of Japan’s most dangerous young strikers, but his recent results show that his development has gone beyond spectacular knockouts.
He won the Fury FC flyweight championship in January 2026 after stopping Antonio Figueiredo with punches in the second round. That victory gave Suzuki an important international title before he entered Road to UFC Season 5.
Just four months later, he stepped into the Road to UFC tournament in Macau and faced Mongolian prospect Otgonbaatar Boldbaatar. Suzuki eventually produced another finish.
After more than four minutes of competitive action, Suzuki landed a damaging left hand to the body that dropped Boldbaatar. He followed his opponent to the canvas and finished the fight with punches at 4:36 of the opening round. UFC officially recorded the result as a TKO.
The victory took Suzuki to 8 and 1 and earned him a place in the flyweight semifinals.
The Four Second Knockout That Put Suzuki on the Map
Suzuki already had a highlight that separated him from many prospects before his Road to UFC run.
In January 2024, he faced Yuichi Miyagi at Shooto in Tokyo. The fight lasted only four seconds.
Suzuki launched a flying knee almost immediately after the opening exchange and knocked Miyagi out. The finish became notable because it was officially one second faster than Jorge Masvidal’s famous five second knockout of Ben Askren at UFC 239.
The knockout was not simply an isolated highlight. Suzuki has repeatedly shown finishing ability throughout his professional career.
According to his current record, six of his eight victories have come by KO or TKO. His recent wins include stoppages against Gabriel Bellomini, Antonio Figueiredo and Boldbaatar.
Suzuki Faces an Undefeated Opponent
The next challenge is considerably different.
Joseph Larcinese enters the Road to UFC semifinal with a perfect 6 and 0 record. He earned his place in the semifinals by defeating Japanese fighter Ryoga Arimoto by split decision in the opening round. That makes the matchup particularly interesting.
Takaya Suzuki has built his record around explosive striking and finishing power, while Larcinese remains unbeaten and has four submission victories on his professional record. The Australian will present Suzuki with a different type of test from the opponents he has stopped during his recent winning run.
The winner advances to the Road to UFC final, making the Shanghai matchup one of the most important fights of Suzuki’s career.

Road to UFC has become an important pathway for Asian MMA prospects hoping to earn a place on the UFC roster.
The fifth season features prospects from across the Asia Pacific region competing in tournament brackets across multiple weight classes. The semifinal event takes place at Shanghai Indoor Stadium on August 28.
For Takaya Suzuki, the timing could hardly be better. He is only 21, has already won a championship outside Japan and has produced eight straight victories since his professional debut loss. His finishing record also gives him a clear identity as he enters the biggest fight of his career.
Suzuki will now have to show that his striking can overcome an undefeated opponent who has built his own success around winning. A victory over Larcinese would take Suzuki one step closer to the UFC.
