The ROAD FC flyweight division has been shaken by unexpected news. Champion Jung Hyun Lee has undergone surgery for an orbital fracture, leaving the title picture uncertain and opening the door for new possibilities in one of the promotion’s most competitive weight classes.

The timing could not have been more dramatic. On May 30, GOOBNE ROAD FC 077 took place at Jangchung Arena in Seoul. The co main event was supposed to showcase the second title defense of Jung Hyun Lee against rising challenger Joon Gun Cho. It was a matchup that fans had been waiting for, a clash between a reigning champion known for his composure and a young contender who had been chasing the belt for six years. Fans were excited for this matchup especially after this intense fight promo posted on Road FC‘s youtube channel:
Instead, the fight never happened. During his final stretch of training, Jung Hyun Lee suffered an orbital fracture serious enough to require surgery. The injury forced the cancellation of the title fight, leaving both fighters frustrated and the division without a clear direction.
Even though they could not compete, both Jung Hyun Lee and Joon Gun Cho stepped into the cage after Ye Jun Pyeon’s victory in Part 2 to address the fans. Jung Hyun Lee apologized first. He explained that he had been preparing for his second title defense when the injury occurred and that he had no choice but to undergo surgery. He apologized to the fans, to ROAD FC Chairman Moon Hong Jung, to the staff who worked to build the event, and to Joon Gun Cho. He promised to focus on recovery and return as soon as possible.
Joon Gun Cho’s emotions were different. He said that if Jung Hyun Lee had not been injured, he would have become the youngest champion in ROAD FC history. He expressed deep disappointment, saying he had worked toward the championship belt for six years and that losing the opportunity with less than two weeks remaining felt unfair. He even added that getting injured so close to the fight is something a fake champion would do, a comment that immediately raised the tension inside the arena.
That tension grew when Ye Jun Pyeon re entered the cage. Pyeon has history with both fighters. He previously challenged Jung Hyun Lee for the title and also holds a victory over Joon Gun Cho. He told the crowd that he wanted the fight as well, whether immediately or on August 29 as a title challenger.
Joon Gun Cho responded quickly. He said that Ye Jun Pyeon was exactly the opponent he wanted and that it was a challenge he needed to overcome. If Jung Hyun Lee could not return soon, he asked Chairman Moon Hong Jung to consider an interim title fight between himself and Ye Jun Pyeon.
For now, the priority remains rescheduling the original championship bout once Jung Hyun Lee has recovered. But if the recovery timeline stretches too long, ROAD FC may have no choice but to create an interim title fight to keep the division moving.
With Jung Hyun Lee recovering from surgery, Joon Gun Cho demanding clarity, and Ye Jun Pyeon stepping forward with confidence, the flyweight division has become one of the most unpredictable stories in ROAD FC. The champion’s return will determine everything, but until then, the possibility of an interim title fight continues to grow.
This is the kind of moment that defines a division. A champion healing. A challenger waiting. A third contender stepping in. And a promotion preparing for whatever comes next. Be sure to subscribe and follow Road FC‘s youtube channel for more updates.
