The former UFC veteran, Kyung Ho Kang, is back in the gym, and new training photos alongside “Shirasoni” are adding another layer to the growing speculation surrounding a potential Black Combat move.
The Kyung Ho Kang comeback rumors just got another interesting piece of evidence.
The former UFC veteran recently uploaded training photos alongside “Shirasoni,” adding a new wrinkle to the speculation surrounding Kang’s potential return to competition.
HanPunch previously reported on Kang opening the door to fighting again after more than two years away from active competition. At the time, there was plenty of reason to wonder whether “Mr. Perfect” was simply entertaining the idea or genuinely considering another run.
Now, he is showing himself back on the mats.
And the company he is keeping makes the timing particularly interesting.
Kang Trains Alongside ‘Shirasoni’
Training photos alone are hardly confirmation of an upcoming fight. Fighters routinely train together without there being anything more behind it, and neither Kang nor Black Combat has announced that the former UFC veteran has signed with the promotion.
Kang’s latest photos show him training with “Shirasoni,” an active name within Black Combat’s featherweight scene.
But Kang’s situation already had plenty of speculation surrounding it before these photos appeared.
That makes them harder to dismiss as just another ordinary training session.
Kang has previously stated that if he were to return to MMA, he would do so at featherweight rather than attempt another cut to bantamweight.
Seeing him now training alongside a Black Combat featherweight naturally raises questions about what exactly Kang is preparing for.
The Black Combat Connection Is Getting Harder to Ignore
Kang has not announced a Black Combat deal.
However, speculation connecting him to the promotion has continued to grow.
A recent report referenced an unidentified fighter, described as “Fighter C”, potentially receiving a Black Combat title opportunity at the promotion’s Gocheok Sky Dome event. Korean MMA commentators have subsequently attempted to piece together the clues, with Kang emerging as one of the names being discussed.
There is still no confirmation that Kang is Fighter C.
But the reporting has fueled speculation that Black Combat has at least explored the possibility of bringing Kang into the promotion.
The latest training photos do not prove that theory.
They do, however, arrive at an interesting time.
Kang is no longer simply talking about possibly fighting again. He is visibly training — and doing so alongside a fighter already associated with the promotion at the center of the rumors.
Is This the Beginning of a Fight Camp?
That may be the bigger question.
Rather than immediately assuming Kang and Shirasoni are preparing to fight each other, the more intriguing possibility is that Kang himself is beginning to prepare for something.
There is currently no evidence establishing Kang vs. Shirasoni as an upcoming matchup.
In fact, Kang training with Shirasoni could be just as significant if the two are helping each other prepare for separate fights.
For Kang, that would represent another step forward from where the story stood previously.
When Kang discussed a potential comeback in the past, he stopped short of announcing anything concrete. He acknowledged that his motivation as a fighter had declined but said the right opportunity — or enough demand from fans — could convince him to compete again.
More recently, while appearing alongside veteran Myung Ho Bae, Kang again entertained the possibility after watching Bae make his own return to competition.
Those were words.
These are training photos.
It still isn’t a fight announcement, but the difference is worth watching.
Featherweight Would Make Sense
The presence of Shirasoni also brings Kang’s previous comments about weight back into focus.
Kang spent the majority of his UFC career at bantamweight, but another cut to 135 pounds would be a major undertaking at this stage of his career. Kang has discussed walking around significantly heavier outside of competition, and he previously made it clear that featherweight would be his preferred division if he returned.
That makes the featherweight connection particularly interesting.
If Kang is simply staying in shape, there may ultimately be nothing more to the photos.
If he is preparing for a comeback, however, training alongside an active Black Combat featherweight would fit neatly with what Kang himself has already said about how that comeback would look.
Another Clue, But Still No Announcement
For now, Kyung Ho Kang remains exactly where he was before the photos appeared: one of the most intriguing potential comeback stories in Korean MMA.
The difference is that there is now another clue.
First came Kang leaving the door open to fighting again. Then came his comments while watching Myung Ho Bae return. After that came speculation connecting an unidentified veteran fighter to a major Black Combat opportunity.
Now Kang is posting training photos alongside Shirasoni.
Individually, none of those developments confirms anything.
Together, they’re beginning to create a pattern worth paying attention to.
Maybe Mr. Perfect is simply enjoying some rounds in the gym.
Or maybe the former UFC veteran is no longer just thinking about one more fight.
