Gentleman Flower Fighting Championship (GFC) found itself in the spotlight during Black Combat’s recent promotional visit to Busan, as CEO Pyeong Hwa Park introduced the regional promotion and its new leader, Kyung Rok Kim, to fans ahead of Black Combat’s upcoming Korea vs. Mongolia event.

“I didn’t realize promoting events would be this difficult,” Kim explained, describing the struggle to attract participants despite organizing monthly amateur competitions. After several months of events, GFC had hosted fewer than 15 amateur bouts, prompting the promotion to rethink its structure and long-term strategy.
GFC’s Return Focuses on Building Opportunities
Those challenges ultimately shaped Gentleman Flower Fighting Championship’s recently announced relaunch under the theme “Return.”
The promotion says it is rebuilding from the ground up, focusing first on creating more opportunities for amateur and semi-professional athletes before gradually expanding its professional offerings.
As part of that effort, GFC has confirmed its next Amateur & Semi-Pro League event will take place on August 29, 2026, at Team MAD Gwangalli after postponing its originally scheduled June event to improve matchmaking quality and overall event operations.
Applications remain open for Beginner, Amateur, and Semi-Pro competitors, while GFC is also recruiting professional welterweight and middleweight athletes for its upcoming tournament, signaling the promotion’s intention to continue expanding its professional pathway.
More Than a Regional Promotion
One of the most revealing moments in the video comes when Park explains why he continues encouraging promotions like GFC.
After hearing Kim describe the difficulties of running events, Park remarks that promoting regional MMA is far more challenging than many people realize. That conversation helps explain why Black Combat chose to feature GFC during its Busan visit.
