The cancellation of the highly anticipated Black Combat versus Breaking Down event left many fighters frustrated, but Black Combat’s trip to Japan ultimately turned into something far more valuable.
Featured in Episode 4 of the Black Combat vs Breaking Down series, the Korean promotion’s athletes traveled to Fukuoka expecting to compete against Breaking Down representatives. Instead, visa-related issues prevented the event from taking place. Rather than returning home empty-handed, Black Combat transformed the trip into a high-level training camp that showcased the organization’s growing talent pool.
Turning Disappointment Into Opportunity
Upon arriving in Fukuoka, the Black Combat team connected with local Japanese gyms through Black Combat Japan representatives and former competitors. What began as a disappointing situation quickly evolved into an opportunity for international training and sparring.
The Japanese gym welcomed the Korean fighters and arranged matchups with athletes from various organizations, including ONE Championship, RIZIN, Shooto, professional boxing, and regional Japanese MMA promotions.
The result was a full day of competitive sparring that provided valuable experience for both sides.
Tigro Emerges as a Standout
One of the most talked-about performances came from Tigro, who faced experienced Japanese fighter Ryuhei Sakai.
Although the session was conducted under controlled sparring conditions, Tigro’s striking and composure impressed both teammates and spectators. Coaches praised his ability to dictate exchanges while remaining technically disciplined throughout the round.
Several Black Combat members jokingly remarked that enthusiasm among potential sparring partners appeared to decrease after witnessing Tigro’s performance.
Fire Punch Tests Himself Against Professional Boxer

Black Combat featherweight Jae Hyuk Bang, known as “Fire Punch,” participated in one of the most intriguing matchups of the day against professional boxer Takuo Yasuda.
The pair agreed to compete under a hybrid format featuring a boxing round followed by an MMA round.
While Yasuda demonstrated sharp boxing skills, Fire Punch’s complete MMA skill set proved difficult to handle. After the sparring session, the Japanese boxer praised Jae Huk’s ability to seamlessly combine striking and grappling, calling him a high-level mixed martial artist.
The performance reinforced why Fire Punch remains one of Black Combat’s most respected veterans.
Big Mouth Faces ONE Championship Competition

Dong Gyu Kim, better known as “Big Mouth,” was matched against ONE Championship bantamweight Junpei Nagatome.
The contest featured competitive exchanges on the feet and on the ground. While neither athlete secured a definitive finish, coaches praised Big Mouth’s tactical approach and experience.
The matchup served as another measuring stick for Black Combat fighters against internationally recognized competition.
Black Combat’s Philosophy of Growth
Beyond the sparring itself, Episode 4 provided insight into Black Combat’s culture and long-term vision.
Founder Dae Hwan Kim explained that Korean fighters often need greater competitive pressure to reach the level of athletes from powerhouse MMA regions such as Brazil and Central Asia.
According to Kim, uncomfortable situations, intense competition, and constant challenges are necessary ingredients for fighter development. The Japan training camp became a real-world example of that philosophy in action.
Rather than allowing disappointment to define the trip, Black Combat used the setback as motivation.
More Than Just a Training Camp
The episode concluded with an entertaining grappling tournament involving coaches and corner men, creating a lighter atmosphere after a day of hard training.
Although the official Black Combat versus Breaking Down event never materialized, the fighters still gained valuable international experience and strengthened relationships within the Japanese combat sports community.
For Black Combat, the trip to Fukuoka ultimately demonstrated something important: even without a sanctioned event, the promotion’s athletes were eager to compete, represent Korean MMA, and prove themselves against quality opposition.
If Episode 4 showed anything, it is that Black Combat’s fighters are willing to find competition wherever it exists and they have the confidence to test themselves against anyone.
