Black Combat featherweight Do Gyeom Lee reveals why he moved to Seoul, joined Havas MMA, nearly retired from MMA, and embraced a new chapter in his career.
One of the biggest offseason developments in Korean MMA wasn’t a fight announcement, it was Do Gyeom Lee‘s decision to join Havas MMA.
After spending much of his professional career as one of Korea’s best-known independent fighters, the Black Combat featherweight has relocated from Busan to Seoul and officially joined one of the country’s premier mixed martial arts teams.
While many fans initially viewed the move as a simple gym change, Lee revealed it represents something much bigger. For the first time in his career, he is fully committing to a structured training environment in hopes of discovering just how far he can still go as a professional fighter.
A Fresh Start in Seoul
According to a recent interview with Aiden MMA House, Lee’s move to Seoul began with a major life change outside the cage.
As he prepares for marriage, he relocated to Songpa District to begin a new chapter with his fiancée. The transition also gave him an opportunity to rethink his career after years of training independently throughout Busan.
The veteran admitted that adapting to Seoul has not been easy. Between the dramatically higher cost of living and adjusting to a completely new environment, nearly every part of his daily routine has changed. Yet he believes those challenges are part of the personal growth he has been searching for.
Why Havas MMA?

Although Lee officially joined Havas MMA this summer, his relationship with head coach Jung Won Lee stretches back more than a decade.
Both men are from neighboring areas of Busan, and Lee recalls watching Jung develop into a successful champion while he was still learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Over the years, the two stayed in contact, and after Lee moved to Seoul, Jung welcomed him into the gym.
Rather than arriving as an established veteran, Lee says he views himself as a student again. He wants to learn the discipline, structure, and culture that have helped make Havas MMA one of South Korea’s most respected teams.
“I Had Done Everything I Could”

The interview’s most revealing moment came when Lee explained why he finally chose to leave the independent path that defined his career.
For years, he relied on determination and self-belief while training without a permanent home. Looking back, he says that chapter helped shape him as both a fighter and a person.
Eventually, however, he realized he had reached the limit of what he could accomplish in that environment.
“I felt like I had done everything I could,” Lee explained.
Joining Havas MMA wasn’t about abandoning his identity. It was about finding new ways to grow.
Fighting Without Regret
Perhaps the biggest surprise was Lee’s admission that he had seriously considered retirement before Black Combat revived his motivation.
Instead of walking away, he chose to challenge himself one last time.
Rather than wondering years from now what might have happened if he had trained with one of Korea’s elite teams, Lee decided to take the risk now.
“I didn’t want to retire with regrets.”
That mindset ultimately became the driving force behind both his move to Seoul and his decision to join Havas MMA.
Looking Ahead
Only a few weeks into training, Lee says he is still adapting to the team’s demanding environment. Every session presents new challenges, but he has embraced the opportunity to learn from coaches and teammates who have competed at the highest levels of Korean MMA.
His goals remain simple.
Continue improving.
Earn his place within the team.
Then prove the decision was the right one inside the Black Combat cage.
Whether Do Gyeom Lee ultimately reaches championship success at Havas MMA remains to be seen. What is already clear, however, is that he has chosen to challenge himself at a pivotal moment in both his fighting career and his personal life.
After years of carving his own path, Lee is betting that structure, elite training partners, and a new environment can help unlock another level. For a fighter who openly admitted he did not want to retire wondering “what if,” joining Havas MMA may become the defining decision of his career.
