Victor Hugo says his days at featherweight are over after missing weight for the second consecutive event.
The Black Combat featherweight contender made the emotional announcement after missing weight for the second consecutive event, revealing that the brutal weight cuts have become too much to continue.
Speaking in a promotional video ahead of the event, Hugo apologized directly to fans before confirming that he plans to leave the division.
“I’m done fighting in this godforsaken weight class.”
The Brazilian, who has competed at featherweight since he was 17 years old, admitted that despite following strict diets and spending countless hours cutting weight in the sauna, his body can no longer make the limit safely.
“I’ve already failed to make weight twice in a row,” Hugo said. “Even when I do everything right, it just doesn’t work.”
According to Victor Hugo, the repeated cuts have taken a serious physical toll. He claimed the dehydration has affected both his hearing and vision and admitted that every weight cut leaves him with less energy than before.
Rather than continuing to struggle to reach the featherweight limit, Hugo says he is ready to compete at lightweight or accept 68-kilogram catchweight bouts going forward.
“I’m done with featherweight for good,” he said. “If someone wants to fight at 68 kilograms or in the lightweight division, I’m ready.”
The announcement comes after another difficult appearance on the scales at the latest Black Combat weigh-ins, where Hugo again failed to hit the contracted featherweight limit. Instead of making excuses, the veteran accepted responsibility and offered a heartfelt apology to supporters.
“I don’t want to disappoint my fans anymore,” Hugo said. “I really gave it everything I had.”
Hugo closed his message by thanking the fans who have continued to support him throughout his career, saying their encouragement was the main reason he pushed through another difficult camp despite knowing his body was reaching its limits.
The decision marks a significant shift in Black Combat’s featherweight landscape. As one of the division’s top-ranked contenders, Hugo’s move to lightweight opens the door for new challengers to emerge while creating several intriguing potential matchups in one of the promotion’s deepest divisions.
If Hugo’s performance translates to 155 pounds, the move could ultimately extend his career while allowing him to compete without the severe physical cost of cutting to featherweight.
