After an emotional build-up and a physical confrontation at media day, “King Kong” delivered a dominant victory over “Samurai.”
Il Hak Oh needed only 37 seconds to defeat Patrick Kelvin at Black Cup, bringing a swift conclusion to one of the most personal matchups surrounding the semifinal event.
Oh, better known as “King Kong,” entered the fight as the favorite. Once the action began, the difference showed almost immediately.
Oh attacked Kelvin’s lead leg twice during the opening exchanges. After the second kick landed near the knee, Kelvin—known as “Samurai”—suddenly dropped to the canvas. Oh rushed forward and followed with ground-and-pound, bringing the fight to an end before it could reach the one-minute mark.
The abrupt finish surprised those watching from the venue. Even Oh appeared uncertain about what had caused Kelvin to fall so suddenly, admitting during his post-fight interview that he did not fully understand how the fight had ended so quickly.
Kelvin later addressed the situation through his Instagram account. According to Samurai, the decisive strike landed directly around his knee rather than the calf. He immediately felt that something was wrong and was unable to continue fighting.
Kelvin accepted the result, credited his opponent and thanked his supporters and sponsors. He also promised to recover, learn from the loss and return stronger.
A Personal Build-Up
The 37-second fight followed an unusually emotional build-up between the two competitors.
During Black Combat’s media day, Oh confronted Kelvin over allegations that Samurai had been monitoring Oh’s girlfriend online. Kelvin responded that he was willing to fight immediately, and the conversation quickly escalated into a heated exchange.
Water was then thrown in Oh’s direction. King Kong reacted by swinging his microphone toward Samurai’s head, forcing the people around the stage to intervene.
The two fighters were separated and removed from the press-conference area. The confrontation abruptly ended the first portion of the media event and transformed what had initially been presented as a competitive matchup into something considerably more personal.
Oh displayed clear frustration throughout the encounter, but when the fighters finally met inside the competition area, he remained composed long enough to let his offense decide the outcome.
King Kong Delivers as the Favorite
Kelvin never had an opportunity to demonstrate the offensive ability that earned him a place on the Black Cup stage. The damage to his knee brought the contest to an end before either fighter could establish a rhythm or show much of his broader skill set.
For Oh, however, the result was as decisive as it could have been.
King Kong entered as the expected winner, compromised Samurai with his opening attacks and completed the stoppage in just 37 seconds. After days of accusations, shouting and a physical confrontation, Oh ultimately made his strongest statement once the fight began.
