Dong Hyun Kim and a group of Team MAD fighters joined the global MMA community in expressing frustration after Conor McGregor’s UFC 329 return against Max Holloway ended through an apparent leg injury.
Dong Hyun Kim, Conor McGregor, Max Holloway, and UFC 329 became the center of attention across the Korean MMA community as fighters and coaches gathered to watch one of the most anticipated rematches in recent UFC history.
Former UFC welterweight Dong Hyun Kim recorded his live reaction for Stungun TV alongside Korean MMA commentator Chador and members of his production team. Coach Yang Sung Hoon also hosted a separate viewing session on Coach Yang TV featuring a group of Team MAD fighters.
Both groups entered the main event expecting a dramatic battle. Instead, they were left stunned when McGregor suffered an apparent leg injury shortly after the fight began, giving Holloway a first-round TKO victory.
UFC 329 took place on July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Holloway officially defeated McGregor by TKO just 1:09 into the opening round of their welterweight rematch.
Dong Hyun Kim Expected Conor McGregor to Start Fast

Before the UFC 329 main event, Dong Hyun Kim questioned whether McGregor could maintain his performance over a long fight after spending several years away from the Octagon.
Kim expected the former two-division UFC champion to attack aggressively and pursue an early finish.
He believed McGregor’s reach, counterstriking, and ability to create unusual openings could still cause problems for Holloway. However, he also recognized the danger presented by Holloway’s pace, footwork, volume, and ability to pressure opponents over multiple rounds.
Although Holloway appeared taller, Kim noted that the official measurements listed McGregor as having the longer reach. He warned that UFC reach statistics are not always measured consistently but still considered McGregor’s length an important element of the matchup.
Kim did not expect McGregor to willingly enter a prolonged battle.
“McGregor probably is not thinking about a long fight,” Kim said during the broadcast, pointing to the potential difficulty of maintaining his conditioning after such a lengthy absence.
At the same time, Kim praised both men for creating an event capable of capturing the attention of the entire sport. He described entering an arena of that scale as one of the greatest honors available to a professional fighter.
Team MAD Fighters Were Divided Before UFC 329

The Team MAD viewing party offered a wider range of predictions.
Several members believed Holloway’s activity and volume punching would eventually overwhelm McGregor. They questioned whether McGregor had trained with the same discipline and urgency that powered his original rise through the UFC.
One Team MAD fighter compared their styles by describing McGregor as an explosive, single-shot striker and Holloway as a high-volume attacker capable of landing repeated combinations.
Others openly supported McGregor.
They argued that McGregor’s success would benefit the entire MMA industry because of the attention, money, and new viewers he brings to the sport. They also pointed to McGregor’s victory over Holloway in their first meeting and suggested that a return to his older karate-influenced stance could help him rediscover his best form.
The Team MAD group also discussed whether McGregor’s long layoff could work in his favor.
While inactivity normally creates concerns about timing and conditioning, some believed the extended break may have allowed McGregor to recover physically and mentally from years of accumulated damage. They contrasted that with Holloway’s more recent knockout loss and debated whether a fighter’s durability can fully recover in a shorter period.
The predictions were split, but nearly everyone agreed that McGregor’s presence had transformed the modern combat sports business.
The Fight Ends Before It Can Begin
The confident predictions quickly gave way to confusion.
McGregor attempted to create an unpredictable opening but appeared to land awkwardly and lose control of his leg. Holloway moved forward as McGregor struggled to regain his balance.
On Stungun TV, Dong Hyun Kim immediately recognized that the problem was more serious than a simple slip.
Kim initially examined whether McGregor had aggravated his previously injured lower leg. After watching the replay, however, he believed the problem appeared to be in McGregor’s knee.
Kim speculated that McGregor may have injured one of his cruciate ligaments while landing from a jumping attack. He explained that an awkward landing can cause the knee to shift suddenly, leaving the joint unstable.
That was Kim’s live visual assessment rather than a confirmed medical diagnosis.
The Team MAD fighters reacted with similar disbelief. Within seconds, the room went from excitement to concern as it became clear that McGregor could not properly support himself.
With the fight unable to continue safely, Holloway was awarded the TKO victory. The official result gave Holloway the win, but neither Korean viewing group treated the ending as a satisfying conclusion.
Dong Hyun Kim Praises Max Holloway’s Sportsmanship

One of the strongest moments in Dong Hyun Kim’s reaction came after the stoppage.
Kim praised Max Holloway for recognizing that McGregor was injured rather than immediately launching an uncontrolled attack against an opponent who could no longer defend himself normally.
Holloway still needed to demonstrate enough offense for the referee to stop the contest, but Kim believed the former champion showed awareness and respect during an unusual situation.
He described Holloway’s response as an example of professional responsibility between fighters.
Kim also believed Holloway would feel conflicted despite receiving the victory. At their level, he explained, fighters want to give the audience a memorable performance rather than win because an opponent’s body unexpectedly gives out.
Holloway’s first-round TKO was confirmed as the official UFC 329 main-event result, but the abrupt ending prevented the rematch from answering the technical questions surrounding the two fighters.
MMA Community Left Frustrated by UFC 329 Ending
The Team MAD group joked that there was almost nothing left to review after spending most of the video debating how the matchup might unfold. Dong Hyun Kim expressed the same feeling of emptiness on Stungun TV.
That reaction was not limited to the Korean MMA community.
Fans around the world had waited years to see Conor McGregor return against Max Holloway, only for the UFC 329 main event to end before either fighter could establish a rhythm. The result left the broader MMA community frustrated, disappointed, and concerned about McGregor’s condition.
For Holloway, the official victory added another major name to his record, but the injury stoppage prevented him from delivering the type of definitive performance both fighters and fans wanted. For McGregor, the comeback ended before there was a real opportunity to evaluate how much of his former ability remained after the long absence.
The reactions from Stungun TV and Coach Yang TV reflected the wider mood surrounding the fight. Former UFC athletes, active professionals, coaches, commentators, and fans may have entered the event with different predictions, but most were left with the same response: concern for McGregor, respect for Holloway, and frustration that one of the year’s biggest fights ended almost as soon as it began.
Kim described the result as another reminder of MMA’s unpredictability. Any outcome is possible inside the cage, including the ones neither fighter nor the audience wants to see.
