Boxing Showdown is bringing a different kind of rivalry into the ring on September 13.
Veteran MMA fighter Dae Sung Kim will face former boxing champion Nam Shin Kim as part of Boxing Showdown’s special “Left vs. Right” event at Monster Sports in Ilsan, South Korea.
The event divides its participants into two opposing camps, with Dae Sung leading the left-wing team and Nam Shin representing the right-wing side.
Until now, the two have served as captains for their respective teams. This time, however, they won’t be watching from behind the ropes.
They’re fighting each other.
“Now, the leaders of each camp will enter the ring themselves,” Boxing Showdown announced in promoting the matchup.
The promotion has built the event around the traditional political divide between the left and right, turning that rivalry into a combat-sports spectacle featuring debate, sparring and sanctioned boxing competition.
At the center of the concept is a straightforward fight.
Dae Sung Kim Makes a Quick Return
For Dae Sung Kim the fight comes less than a month after his most recent appearance.
Kim competed at DOMVS 21 on August 15, 2026, where he faced Dong Hwan Lim.
It was a difficult night for Kim.
Lim scored three knockdowns in the opening round, bringing the fight to an end just 1:28 into Round 1.
Now, Dae Sung will make a quick turnaround on September 13, but this time he’ll be competing in a very different environment.
Instead of an MMA contest, Kim will step into the boxing ring against an opponent with considerable experience in the sport.
Nam Shin Kim is a former boxing champion and has been positioned as the captain of the right-wing team for the special event. That background creates an interesting challenge for Dae Sung Kim, who will be crossing over from MMA to meet Kim under boxing rules.
Beneath the political branding, that gives the matchup a legitimate combat-sports storyline: an experienced MMA veteran looking to rebound from a recent defeat while testing himself against a former boxing champion.
The Captains Finally Fight
Dae Sung Kim vs. Nam Shin Kim will headline a broader concept built around representatives from the two opposing camps competing against one another.
Former Korean national boxing team member Dong Yoon Lee is scheduled to face former Korean middleweight champion Jun Yong Lee, while Cho Rok Oh vs. Si Hyung Han has also been announced.
Former MMA heavyweight champion Jun Soo Lim is also expected to represent the left-wing team.
But the biggest symbolic matchup comes between the two men who have been leading their respective sides.
Boxing Showdown has promoted Dae Sung and Nam Shin as the captains of the opposing camps. On September 13, neither will be able to rely on someone else to represent them.
They’ll have to settle the sporting rivalry themselves.
