After nearly a year away from competition, former ONE Championship veteran Chang Min Yoon returns to headline ZFN ORIGIN 05 while making it clear what it will take to secure his next big fight.
Former ONE Championship fighter Chang Min Yoon is ready to compete again, but he is not returning quietly.
After nearly a year away from competition because of recurring injuries, Yoon will headline ZFN ORIGIN 05 against rising prospect Gyu Tae Seo on August 22. While the matchup marks his long awaited return to the cage, Yoon also used the opportunity to send a message about what comes next.
“If you can match 30 million won and make it a fight between featherweight and lightweight, I’ll take it immediately.”
The statement came during ZFN’s latest YouTube series documenting his preparation at HAVAS MMA, where Yoon discussed his recovery, his growth over the past year, and the opportunities he hopes await after his comeback.
Returning With Something to Prove
Yoon’s absence was longer than expected.
Known for fighting through injuries, he revealed that he had previously competed despite serious physical setbacks, including entering a ONE Championship bout with a damaged orbital bone. This time, however, repeated rib injuries forced him to step away from competition.
“I realized there wasn’t much I could do with injured ribs,” Yoon admitted.
Looking back, he believes trying to return too quickly only delayed his recovery. Now fully healthy, he says he views the extended layoff differently.
“In a way, it makes the story more interesting.”
Instead of focusing on lost time, Yoon believes the past year has allowed him to continue developing as a mixed martial artist.
A New Chapter at HAVAS MMA
Much of that development has come under the guidance of Jung Won Lee at HAVAS MMA.
Yoon credits his coach with bringing a level of professionalism and attention to detail that he had rarely experienced before. From daily technical corrections to international cornering experience, he believes the environment has helped him mature as both a fighter and a professional.
While the improvements may not be immediately obvious to fans, Yoon believes they will become visible inside the cage.
“I’ve definitely grown,” he said. “It might not be obvious yet, but I know I’m improving.”
First Comes Gyu Tae Seo
Despite discussing future opportunities, Yoon made it clear that his attention remains on Gyu Tae Seo.
He praised Seo’s recent performances, particularly his victory over Chan Soo Park, describing the younger fighter as athletic, physically strong and full of momentum.
“The momentum of a young fighter is the biggest danger,” Yoon explained.
Rather than trying to overwhelm Seo early, Yoon expects to weather the initial pressure before taking over as the fight develops.
Interestingly, Yoon admitted he is not expecting to dominate the grappling exchanges. After watching Seo’s previous fights, he believes controlling him on the ground will be difficult, making patience and timing critical to victory.
The Price of the Next Opportunity
Although his focus remains on ZFN ORIGIN 05, Yoon did not hesitate when asked about future opponents, including a potential matchup with Sang Geun Han.
His answer was simple.
During his time in ONE Championship, Yoon said he consistently earned purses exceeding 30 million won. If another promotion can offer similar compensation and a catchweight between featherweight and lightweight, he is willing to compete anywhere.
“Japan, overseas, wherever. I’ll go.”
Rather than issuing a challenge to one specific fighter, Yoon framed it as a statement of his market value after competing internationally.
A Career Restart
For Yoon, ZFN ORIGIN 05 represents more than another regional fight.
It is the first step in rebuilding the momentum that injuries interrupted and an opportunity to remind fans why he once competed on one of MMA’s biggest international stages.
His message is clear.
The comeback begins against Gyu Tae Seo.
What happens after that will depend on both his performance and whether promoters are willing to meet the value he believes he has earned.
