Black Combat middleweight champion Il Hak Oh and Brazilian contender Patrick Kelvin turned their August 29 matchup into a personal grudge fight after a heated exchange became physical during the promotion’s latest press conference.
Oh, better known as “King Kong,” confronted Kelvin—“Samurai”—over allegedly monitoring his girlfriend online. Kelvin responded that he was willing to fight immediately, and the two continued exchanging words before water was thrown toward Oh.
King Kong reacted by swinging the microphone toward Samurai’s head, forcing people around the stage to intervene. The fighters were subsequently separated and removed from the press-conference area.
The confrontation brought an abrupt end to the first portion of Black Combat’s media day and transformed what had been a competitive matchup into one of the most personal fights surrounding the Black Cup semifinal event.
King Kong Enters as the Favorite
Il Hak Oh approached the press conference in an unfamiliar position.
As Black Combat’s middleweight champion, King Kong has spent much of his recent run facing established opponents and difficult assignments. Against Patrick Kelvin, however, Oh enters as the expected favorite.
King Kong said that assessment was justified and predicted that he would knock Samurai out within the opening two rounds.
Oh’s confidence had reportedly grown following an earlier tire-boxing challenge involving the two fighters. After watching Kelvin in the physical promotional game, King Kong suggested that he could finish the Brazilian in the first round.
The matchup also gives Oh an opportunity to remind audiences why he holds championship status. Although he is not being presented as an underdog this time, the pressure has shifted. A champion is expected to defeat a lower-ranked challenger—and Kelvin arrived at the press conference determined to challenge that expectation.
Samurai Sees King Kong as His Next Step
Patrick Kelvin did not speak like a fighter grateful simply to be included on a major Black Combat card.
Samurai described his arrival on the numbered-event stage as the product of a long period of work. Riding a ten-fight winning streak, Kelvin said he is fully prepared to take King Kong’s place in the rankings and continue moving toward a championship opportunity.
“My goal is the belt,” Kelvin said through translation. “He is just another person in my way.”
The press conference challenged Kelvin over the opponents he had previously pursued, noting that several of the fighters he called out were reportedly 38 or older. King Kong used that history to accuse Samurai of selecting older or weaker opposition.
Kelvin rejected the criticism. He said he had consistently targeted fighters ranked ahead of him and that Oh was simply the next name standing between him and the top of the division.
For Samurai, defeating a younger reigning champion would answer questions about the quality of his winning streak. He described the matchup as the fight he needs to prove his true value within Black Combat.
The Argument Becomes Personal
The discussion shifted away from rankings when Kelvin suggested that King Kong had moved away from the 84-kilogram middleweight division.
Oh dismissed the criticism, explaining that he accepted the fight presented to him. Moments later, his tone changed as he introduced an accusation that had not previously been part of the public promotion.
“Why are you stalking my girlfriend?” Oh asked.
The video does not provide additional context or evidence explaining what King Kong meant by the accusation. It is unclear whether he was referring to social-media activity, direct communication or another interaction involving Kelvin.
Samurai did not attempt to calm the situation. Instead, he told Oh that although he does not search for fights outside the cage, he does not run from them either.
“If you want to fight now, we can fight now,” Kelvin said through translation.
The two moved closer as the exchange continued. Kelvin then threw water toward Oh, prompting King Kong to react with the microphone in his hand. Oh appeared to bring it down toward Kelvin’s head before people onstage stepped between them.
The press conference could not continue normally with both fighters present, and they were escorted away from the stage.
More Than a Promotional Matchup
Before the confrontation, King Kong vs. Samurai carried a relatively straightforward competitive story.
Il Hak Oh was the established Black Combat champion entering as the favorite. Patrick Kelvin was the rising Brazilian contender attempting to validate his winning streak against his youngest and most highly positioned opponent in the promotion.
After media day, the fight has a different tone.
Kelvin no longer sees Oh only as a name ahead of him in the rankings. King Kong is no longer approaching Samurai as another challenger attempting to climb through Black Combat. Their argument introduced a personal accusation that neither fighter was willing to leave for August 29.
That emotion could create a more aggressive fight, but it could also challenge both men’s discipline. Oh has promised a knockout within two rounds, while Kelvin has repeatedly presented himself as a fighter ready to take risks in order to reach the championship level.
The fighter who remains composed may ultimately hold the advantage.
No More Promotion Needed
Il Hak Oh and Patrick Kelvin were already scheduled to share the cage at Black Combat’s August 29 event in Bucheon. The press conference was supposed to explain why audiences should care about the matchup.
Instead, King Kong and Samurai demonstrated it.
Oh believes Kelvin has built his position by pursuing favorable opponents. Kelvin believes King Kong is simply the next obstacle in his path toward a title. The accusation involving Oh’s girlfriend pushed that competitive disagreement into personal territory, while the water and microphone turned the argument physical.
When King Kong and Samurai meet again, there will be no security team separating them and no press-conference table between them.
This time, the confrontation will count.
