Sung Won Son is a South Korean middleweight veteran best known for representing Busan Team MAD throughout the formative years of modern Korean mixed martial arts.

Nicknamed “The Korean Sniper,” Son competed across South Korea, Japan, and China while facing many of Asia’s top regional middleweights and welterweights. His combination of technical striking, composure, and experience allowed him to remain competitive for more than a decade, including championship opportunities in Japan’s HEAT promotion.

Little public information has been released regarding Sung Won Son’s early life before beginning his martial arts career. He developed at Busan Team MAD, one of South Korea’s premier MMA gyms, where he trained alongside many of the country’s top professionals during the rapid growth of Korean MMA. His development coincided with the rise of organizations such as Spirit MC, TFC, and HEAT, helping establish Team MAD as one of Korea’s elite camps.

Sung Won Son built his career around disciplined kickboxing and technical boxing rather than overwhelming athleticism. Fighting behind his length and timing, he preferred measured striking exchanges while maintaining strong defensive awareness. Although capable of finishing fights, he was equally comfortable winning tactical decisions through accuracy and cage control. One of the signature victories of his career came at HEAT 40, where he captured the HEAT Welterweight Championship with an eight-second knockout of Nelson Carvalho. He continued competing until 2019, finishing his career as one of Busan Team MAD’s most experienced professionals.
