Contract Delay Finally Resolved
According to former UFC fighter Dong Hyun Kim, Ko’s team had accepted the matchup more than a month ago. However, the official contract process took significantly longer than expected.
Kim explained that despite agreeing to the fight, the UFC had not finalized the paperwork until the day the announcement was made public. While other fighters scheduled for August events had reportedly already received contracts, Ko’s camp continued preparing under the assumption that the bout would eventually be confirmed.
The team speculated that UFC staff may have been heavily focused on preparations surrounding the promotion’s highly anticipated Sphere event in Las Vegas, contributing to delays in finalizing other fight bookings.
Havas MMA Assembles Training Camp
Ko’s training camp will once again be led by Havas MMA head coach Jung Won Lee. Joining the preparation are teammates Sang Uk Kim and Chang Min Yoon, who will assist in developing strategies for Lebosnoyani’s diverse skill set.
According to Lee, Lebosnoyani presents a unique challenge due to his ability to alter his fighting style depending on the opponent.
In some fights, the Georgian welterweight operates primarily as a distance striker, utilizing southpaw movement and long-range kicking attacks. In others, he pressures aggressively while mixing in wrestling entries and grappling exchanges.
Lee noted that Lebosnoyani frequently switches stances, attacks with high kicks, and actively pursues submission opportunities such as guillotines and D’Arce chokes. His split-decision victory over Philip Rowe is particularly notable given Ko’s previous experience competing against Rowe.
Coaching Staff Focused on Wrestling Pressure
One of the primary challenges facing Ko’s camp is the limited amount of footage available on Lebosnoyani.
Lee described the welterweight as an adaptable fighter rather than a specialist in any single discipline. Instead of approaching him as either a striker or grappler, the coaching staff is preparing for a competitor who adjusts strategically based on the circumstances of each fight.
Both Ko and Lee expect Lebosnoyani to utilize movement, distance management, and counter striking. However, Lee believes early wrestling pressure could disrupt his rhythm and force uncomfortable exchanges against the fence.
The veteran coach emphasized the importance of cage wrestling in modern mixed martial arts, arguing that controlling opponents along the fence often produces different outcomes than traditional wrestling exchanges in open space.
Additional Training Partners Joining Camp

As preparation intensifies, Dong Hyun Kim is seeking additional high-level training support.
Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has reportedly been invited to Korea beginning June 16 to assist with training. Korean UFC middleweight Jun Yong Park is also expected to contribute during camp.
In addition, Taiga Iwasaki is scheduled to join the team later in the preparation process as Ko enters the final stages of training.
Looking Ahead
With the contract now signed and the opponent officially confirmed, Seok Hyeon Ko can fully focus on preparation for July 18.
The matchup represents another important opportunity for one of Korea’s rising UFC welterweights as he looks to continue building momentum inside the promotion.
For now, the waiting is over. The opponent is set, the camp is underway, and Ko’s return to the Octagon is officially on the calendar.
