After watching Henry Corrales’ bare-knuckle debut in Los Angeles, Chan Sung Jung (“Korean Zombie”) admits he finally understands why BKFC has exploded—but says it’s still a little too brutal for him.
There are two kinds of people who watch bare-knuckle fights.
The ones yelling…
“Somebody’s getting knocked out!”
…and Chan Sung Jung, quietly wondering if maybe everyone’s faces would be better off with gloves.
During a recent trip to Los Angeles, The Korean Zombie attended a Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) event to watch former Bellator featherweight contender Henry Corrales make his promotional debut. Jung walked in expecting an entertaining fight.
He walked out understanding why the entire sport has become such a phenomenon.
He just isn’t convinced he wants to watch another one.
“Now I understand why bare knuckle has become so popular and how it has grown this much,” Jung said.
Then came the confession.
“But I don’t think I can watch it.”
Honestly? Fair enough.
“I Thought Henry Was Going to Win”
Before the opening bell, Jung sounded completely confident in Corrales.
His opponent had an accomplished boxing background, but Jung believed Corrales’ experience in MMA would translate well under BKFC’s unique ruleset.
“I thought Henry would win regardless of whether his opponent was a boxing champion,” Jung explained. “With those rules, I don’t think many people could beat Henry.”
Corrales’ aggressive style and willingness to trade have always made him a fan favorite, so it’s easy to see why Jung thought he would be a natural fit without gloves.
Bare Knuckle Is… A Lot
Watching BKFC on YouTube is one thing.
Watching it cageside is apparently another.
Jung admitted the fights gave him a new appreciation for the promotion’s rapid rise in popularity. The nonstop action, the pace and the intensity all made sense once he saw it in person.
The violence, however?
That was another story.
For someone who spent nearly two decades in one of the toughest sports on the planet, even The Korean Zombie admitted bare knuckle felt like a different level of uncomfortable.
Let’s just say he wasn’t exactly asking for front-row seats next time.
More Than Just a Fight Trip
The BKFC event was only one stop during Jung’s week in the United States.
His Los Angeles visit also included a meeting with former UFC superstar Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who, according to Jung, has expressed interest in helping Z-Fight Night (ZFN). The two met over dinner alongside members of the ZFN team to discuss potential opportunities.
Jung also spent time in Las Vegas and Los Angeles holding business meetings with multiple companies, hinting that fans can expect several new developments for the growing promotion.
He closed the vlog by encouraging fans to keep an eye on ZFN Origin, scheduled for August 22.
If those meetings are as productive as Jung suggests, the next few months could be just as exciting outside the cage as they are inside it.
